Everyone, with thanks to Mary Kate Mellow, below is a concise explanation of the new procedures for getting our athletes registered to play an MHS sport. It's important to familiarize yourself and reinforce this new process with your teams. Let me know if you have any questions, and please pass this along asap. I'm also attaching Jeff Gannon's powerpoint from his presentation; it goes a bit more in-depth. -Randy

SPRING SPORTS NIGHT EXPLAINED

The MHS Athletic Department is changing the way athletes are cleared to play sports. There will be four evening events at which spring athletes will be cleared on the spot to play their sport. Athletes, along with at least one parent, must attend the night designated for their spring sport.

There will be doctors on hand from St. Barnabas giving sports
physicals to those athletes that do not have a valid sports physical, or whose family doctor physical cannot be scheduled in time. Coaches will also be present at these events to answer any questions parents or athletes may have. These evenings will help make sure all students wanting to play a spring sport get to do so at the start of the season without missing any practices due to missing forms or physicals. Please contact your child’s coach or the athletic department if you and your child are not able to attend the correct night, and you be assigned a different night.

Please visit the MHS Athletics page to determine what paperwork you need to print out and fill out for your child. To determine whether or not your child’s physical on file at MHS is valid for the spring sports season, visit the MHS Athletics page for details: http://mhs.montclairschools.org/athletics/athletics-forms/. If you have additional questions contact the Athletic Department at 973-509-4102

If you have already turned in the spring sports paperwork for your child you do not need to attend the event, but should follow up with the Athletic Department to verify that they received all the correct items as well as the most up to date versions of the forms. Missing paperwork will only be accepted at the sports nights, not during or afterschool.

MHS has entered into partnership with St. Barnabas Moran Health Assessment Center for Athletes. Free cardiac and concussion screenings are now available to MHS athletes. Impact testing can also be done at certain St. Barnabas facilities if an MHS trainer is not available.

All Sports Registration Evenings will be held from 4-8pm at MHS in the Little Gym on Midland Ave. There are no appointments; walk in at any time during the event.
